CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Forsythia Shinn (Fluttershy)
CANON: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
CANON REFERENCE: WIKI
AGE: 15
GENDER: Female
YEAR IN SCHOOL: HS2
APPEARANCE: Fluttershy is a elegant girl, with long pink hair that falls in her face more often than not, teal green eyes, and rather pale skin. She's tall, though she slouches a lot so she appears shorter than she is.
PERSONALITY: Fluttershy is, like her name suggests, shy. Terminally shy even. She has a big problem standing up for herself. She has grown a little more confident in herself through the series, thanks the help of her friends, but she still skitters away from meeting new people. Her confidence truly shines when she is up against a wall or has to help a friend in need and she has faced down everything from dragons to basilisks to help her friends. It can be said that she is shy and somewhat helpless until the very last moment. She prefers to postpone fighting of any sort for as long as possible and she avoids confrontations with anyone unless they push the issue.
She loves animals and plants, preferring to spend her time outdoors helping animals and tending plants. She has a knack for befriending animals and has no fear of any of them, even the prickly ones. Animals are easier on many levels than other people. They can't tease her or torment her like other people did and she loves helping them in the spring or fall. She's gone far out of her way to help frogs back to their home or nurse a sick bird back to health (even if it didn't actually need her help). She is extremely mothering, trying her best to take care of children she babysits for her friends, but she doesn't quite get the idea of rebellious and rambunctious children. She's a bit overwhelmed by loud people, even if she close to Rainbow Dash, a friend she has known from the time she herself was just small. She is quite good at dealing with loud animals though, talking them down and asserting a motherly dominance over animals that she just doesn't express otherwise. She would never hurt animals, but like most motherly types, she has a problem with being overbearing. She has an idea of an outcome (healing the sick bird, befriending all the animals at a place) and she will do anything she can to make that idea come true, even if it gets a little out of hand.
Fluttershy is interested in fashion as well as animals and plants. It shows when she verbally rips apart the outfit Rarity made for her in canon. Of course Rarity did ask, and based on their close friendship, she did know what she was getting into. Fluttershy, of course, apologized right away, another common habit. She does apologize for every little thing and always adds a 'if you want; if that's ok' to anything that might even resemble a request.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Fluttershy has pink hair--an obvious mutation and has the ability to talk to animals and borrow traits from them (wings, eyesight, etc). She recently grew canary wings with about a ten feet wingspan, though she assumes she grew them as a reactionary mutation. The wing could just barely carry her, as she's very light, but she hasn't figure that out yet due to a fear of heights.
AU HISTORY:
Fluttershy was born in early spring and with the name Forsythia, for the flowers that had just bloomed. Her pink hair was evidence enough that was special but lack of other mutations let her parents relax and they brushed her hair off as a very unusual strawberry blonde. She was always quiet, even as a toddle. School led to teasing for her pink hair and how quiet she was. She grew to hate school and it wasn't until a girl with blue wings stood up for her and befriended her that she began to enjoy it.
The girl she called Rainbow became a good friend and even coached her into telling her parents when she began to talk to animals. For a while they were quite happy to just be friends in their little town and Forsythia was happy to spend all her time with the animals that lived nearby. They didn't hate her for her hair, most thought it was amazing or didn't even notice. Her parents were relatively accepting, or as much as they could be with a daughter who caused no trouble and had a relatively unobtrusive mutation.
Of course, the trouble started with Rainbow gained weather powers and ran away from home to Forsythia. It was only with a great amount of sad eyes and pleading that they allowed the girl to stay with them, since they didn't particularly approve of her being friends with such an outrageous and now rainbow haired mutant. Eventually, Rainbow was pressured to go the Insitute and Forsythia was planning to tag along, though her parents were insisting she stay here.
And then one day Forsythia was speaking to her neighbor's canary and expressing her longing for those wings, to fly like the canary did--and then she had them. Bright yellow wings that tore holes through her favorite green blouse. Admittedly, she panicked and her parents did as well. They were now pushing her to go the Insitute as well.
Rainbow, of course, thought it was awesome. When she started nervously fluttering her wings the day she started packing, Rainbow gave her a new nickname, Fluttershy. This has what she's decided to go by here.

THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:
Her wings were still new strange things attached to her back through seeming magic. Controlling them was still hit or miss and it only took a few instances of knocking her books off her shelf or hitting a classmate in the face to keep them tucked against her back. Fluttershy didn't know how Dash had gotten used to having these things attached to her at all times. They were even worse in the woods, leaving bright yellow feathers scattered behind her and catching on leaves and twigs if she lets them relax for even a moment. She doesn't venture very far in anymore, staying in sight of the school. Rainbow says she needs to talk to people more, but like home, she finds the animals more open and welcoming.
It's comforting to talk to the squirrels in her new home, speaking with them in little hushed tones about the weather and upcoming winter. She gently reminded them to keep their things for winter in a place they'd remember and marked the spot they showed her in her mind. Later, when they realized they had hidden their food from themselves, she would be here to dig the leaves and sticks from their stash. A rabbit catches her eye and she stops, about to speak when thunder suddenly crashes and the rabbit dashes away. The rain starts a moment later, thickening into a downpour before long and instincts she didn't realize she had sent her wings above her head, sheltering her from the rain long enough to make it to the ledge of the building.
Well there'd be no talks now, with the birds and animals under cover. Her wings droop and she gives a fleeing bird a longing look. She just wants to make friends.
A hand on her wing gives her a start and she squeaks, skittering back into the rain. Of course, it's just another student, younger than her, and startled himself. She steps back closer, smiling shyly. She needs to make friends right? Here's a step.
